This is so cool Wendy! You know I’m not one of those people who thinks hotels are just for sleeping aka they’re not very important when you travel… to me it can completely make or break a trip! Thank you so much for this!
I’m so glad you liked the post, Kim! I tend to just go for the cheapest accommodation option when traveling, especially when I’m on a longer trip, but I agree that a guesthouse or hotel with a comfortable, inviting environment can really make a difference. And it doesn’t have to be expensive, either. I just spent three nights in a safari tent at an off-the-grid lodge with no electricity, and it was fabulous! We had wonderful views looking down at Lake Malawi from an escarpment up in the mountains.
I wish I could go to all of these! Maybe I can hold a retreat!
Yes, that’s a great idea, Christy!
Wow, two in Germany! Though I shouldn’t be surprised considering how vegan-friendly Germany is! We normally don’t stay in hotels but I’d definitely be more interested in staying in more sustainably minded vegan ones!
Yeah, Germany is at the forefront of the vegan movement in Europe right now, although I’ve heard that Poland is quickly catching up! I think we will see more and more of these places popping up all over the world. I just stayed in a wonderful community-based eco-lodge in Malawi, of all places. Their whole menu is vegetarian, with plenty of vegan options. It was the best food I’ve had on this trip so far!
This is so cool! I haven’t stayed at that many vegan friendly hotels but I’ve loved the experience when I did! I stayed at one in Berlin (it was lovely because it had a little vegan friendly restaurant downstairs, and provided vegan toiletries in the bathroom) and a vegan friendly B&B in Costa Rica which was absolutely the best, they made me vegan breakfast every day and they were the nicest people, they even took me on their family day trip to the volcano. I’d love to stay at more vegan friendly establishments!
Those two places both sound lovely, Caitlin! I’m sure that, as the vegan movement grows, we will see more and more hotels and guesthouses making an effort to cater to vegans.
I am yet to embark on any back pack adventure, but I will be done with school this December, it’s on my to do list, and I believe this post will come handy by then.
Thanks for sharing Justin, and thanks for hosting the post Wendy.
I hope you have a wonderful first backpacking trip! If you stay at any of these places, or any other vegan-friendly hotels along the way, do let us know!
Hoping to have a budget to go and visit all of them! They all look so promising!
Hi Kyla,
I hope you do get to visit all of these veggie-friendly hotels one day!
